Having Lasik Done is Like Getting a New Pair of Eyes
by Ochi Ecelentia

There it was, an ad in the paper for Lasik surgery
only $299 per eye. I had wanted to give my wife the
surgery as a present since I first heard about it
and now with the lower price, I was going to do it.
We set up an appointment and found out she was a
candidate for the surgery.

The price of my wife's procedure was more than $299
per eye because she had a bad astigmatism. The doctor
could not use lasik, but could use a new laser called
visix which would cost around $799 per eye. Sure it was
more expensive, but I figured that I would get my money
back in a couple of years by not having to buy glasses and
contact lenses each year.

We decided to have the surgery even though it would cost
more than we had planned. The surgery was scheduled for
2 weeks from her appointment.

We were both nervous on the day of the surgery and the
disclaimer papers we had to sign as part of the process
didn't help us feel any more comfortable. These papers
talked about all the bad things that could happen and
basically stated that we were not holding them responsible
if any of them happened.

We were jittery, but as the doctor explaned the procedure
and told us that he had performed more than 35,000
procedures without any problem, our fears were gone. The
doctor told us that the computer would make a topographical
picture of each eye and then calculate the exact shape of
the lens that would give her perfect vision.

After the computer was done making the 3D map of her eyes,
the surgeon would cut a small flap in the cornea of her
eye and lay the flap back. Then the laser would do its
thing. The laser portion of the surgery took less than 2
minutes. The whole surgery including recovery took about
45 minutes. The flap was laid back in place and the surgery
would be complete.

After the surgery was complete, the doctor told me that the
surgery went perfectly and that she was already seeing
better. The only catch was that she would have to keep her
eyes closed for 3-4 hours so the flap could begin healing.
and within a few minutes she could already see better.
we had a follow up appointment the next day and everything
was healing properly.

The next day we visited the doctor to check on how the
surgery went and my wife was now seeing 20-20. It was
unbelievable and very rewarding.

Now all she had to do was to wear special mask at night for
3-4 weeks so that if she rubbed her eyes during the night
the flap would not be dislodged.

Not being able to rub her eyes after the surgery was
probably the hardest part fo the process, but my wife said
it was worth it, because after more than 12 months, she is
still seeing 20-20.

I recommend that you buy the 1 year guarantee if you decide
to go through with the surgery because you will get a free
touch up if you aren't seeing as good as you would have
hoped. The insurance only costs $200.

Lasik is great. My wife really agrees. I love looking into
here beautiful eyes without having to look past glasses or
see contacts in her eyes.
